Panel: Exploring Creative Ways to Combat Violent Crime

I'm joining a conversation on how the arts and alternative methods can be used to combat Chicago's violent crime Saturday (1/7/17) at 2pm at The University of Chicago's Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts (915 E 60th St, Chicago, Illinois 60637).Check out the details below:Natalie Moore, South Side Reporter for WBEZ, will host a panel of engaging adult and teen civic leaders, artists and community members including, Jahmal Cole, Kelly Fair, Dometi Pongo, Caeana Sanders and Messiah Equiano. The panel will discuss the impact of violence and exploring creative ways to respond to the challenges facing communities within Chicago.The talk will include a performance by teen group Rebirth Poetry Ensemble.All Promise of Peace Project programs are free and open to youth and adults.--About the Promise of Peace ProjectThe Promise of Peace Project is a collaboration with the Beverly Arts Center, Diasporal Rhythms, the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, and the South Side Community Arts Center. The project engages youth and adults in a variety of school-based and public programs including exhibitions, spoken word events, artist talks, school matinee performances, community forums, and a student art competition, through January 2017.The Project features the work of several artists, including Makeba Kedem-Dubose, Raymond Thomas, Alexandra Antoine, Douglas Ewart, Walter Kitundu, Theodore Feaster, Juarez Hawkins, Ruby Simmons and Sekani K. Reed and students from Beacon Therapeutic Elementary School, Beacon Therapeutic High School, George Washington High School, Peace and Education Coalition - 2nd Chance and Village Leadership Academy, J Def Peace Project and Clissold Elementary School.
